Το Τμήμα Θεολογίας του Ε.Κ.Π.Α. ανακοινώνει την εφετινή Διάλεξη «Ιωάννης Ζηζιούλας». Οι διαλέξεις αυτές, εμπνεόμενες από το πνεύμα που διακατέχει το έργο του μακαριστού Μητροπολίτη Περγάμου Ιωάννη Ζηζιούλα, αποφοίτου και διδάκτορα της Θεολογικής Σχολής Αθηνών, αποσκοπούν στον διάλογο της ιστορικής και της συστηματικής θεολογίας με επιστημονικές και φιλοσοφικές αναζητήσεις του σύγχρονου κόσμου.
Εφετινός ομιλητής θα είναι ο π. Αλέξιος Torrance, Καθηγητής Βυζαντινής Θεολογίας, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Notre Dame με θέμα: The gift of reason and the future of Orthodox theology / Το δώρο του λόγου και το μέλλον της Ορθόδοξης Θεολογίας.

Ο π. Αλέξιος Torrance έλαβε το πτυχίο, το μεταπτυχιακό και το διδακτορικό στη Θεολογία από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης. Έχει διατελέσει ερευνητικός συνεργάτης στο Ινστιτούτο Προηγμένων Σπουδών του Notre Dame, στο Κέντρο Ελληνικών Σπουδών «Seeger» του Πανεπιστημίου Πρίνστον, στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης και στο Dumbarton Oaks του Πανεπιστημίου Χάρβαρντ στην Ουάσιγκτον.
Το 2014 διορίστηκε στη Θεολογική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Notre Dame. Στις δημοσιεύσεις του περιλαμβάνονται τα έργα Repentance in Late Antiquity (Oxford University Press) και Human Perfection in Byzantine Theology (OUP). Αυτό το διάστημα ολοκληρώνει μια τρίτη μονογραφία (υπό έκδοση από την OUP) με τίτλο Recovering the Craft of Orthodox Theology: Understanding Seeking Union.
Ο π. Αλέξιος χειροτονήθηκε πρεσβύτερος στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 2020 και έλαβε το οφφίκιο του Πρωτοπρεσβυτέρου του Οικουμενικού Θρόνου. Υπηρετεί ως ο Ορθόδοξος Συγγραμματέας της Μικτής Διεθνούς Επιτροπής για τον Θεολογικό Διάλογο μεταξύ της Ορθόδοξης και της Ρωμαιοκαθολικής Εκκλησίας.

This year, we are honored to welcome Fr Alexis Torrance, Professor of Byzantine Theology, University of Notre Dame who will deliver a lecture titled: The gift of reason and the future of Orthodox theology.

Fr Alexis Torrance received his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Theology from the University of Oxford. He has held research fellowships at the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study, the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks in Washington DC. He was appointed to the Faculty of Theology at the University of Notre Dame in 2014. His publications include Repentance in late antiquity (OUP) and Human Perfection in Byzantine Theology (OUP). He is completing a third monograph under contract with OUP entitled Recovering the Craft of Orthodox Theology: Understanding Seeking Union.
Fr Alexis was ordained to the holy priesthood in Constantinople in 2020 and elevated to the rank of Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne. He serves as the Orthodox Co-Secretary of the Joint International Commission for Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches.
