Elle s\u2019accompagne du sacrifice d\u2019un grand nombre d\u2019Ukrainiens, Russes et autres, ainsi que de la destruction de tout un pays. Fallait-il s\u2019attendre \u00e0 un tel d\u00e9sastre&nbsp;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les sp\u00e9cialistes des relations internationales cherchent \u00e0 expliquer cette situation en se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant aux conditions de la sortie de la Guerre froide. L\u2019Occident a-t-il eu tort de profiter de l\u2019implosion de l\u2019Union sovi\u00e9tique pour asseoir son influence \u00e0 l\u2019Est ? Le changement des grands \u00e9quilibres en Europe a-t-il r\u00e9veill\u00e9 les craintes anciennes d\u2019un possible encerclement de la Russie ? D\u2019autre part, comment ne pas prendre en consid\u00e9ration la volont\u00e9 d\u2019ind\u00e9pendance de peuples ayant v\u00e9cu sous l\u2019oppression sovi\u00e9tique ? Comment ne pas r\u00e9pondre par des actes de solidarit\u00e9 au coupable abandon de l\u2019Europe de l\u2019Est \u00e0 la domination de Moscou au nom du syst\u00e8me des zones d\u2019influence \u00e9tabli par les accords de Yalta?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce d\u00e9bat est sans doute valable. Pourtant, la vision de notre \u00c9glise se situe au-del\u00e0 de ces perspectives d\u2019actualit\u00e9. Son regard est davantage enracin\u00e9 dans l\u2019histoire en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et dans l\u2019histoire eccl\u00e9siastique en particulier. Nous consid\u00e9rons que la source de nos malheurs est la cons\u00e9quence d\u2019erreurs de jugement en ce qui concerne les questions li\u00e9es \u00e0 la foi. C\u2019est pour cette raison que nous identifions au terme d\u2019orthodoxie, d\u2019une foi juste et droite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019\u00c9glise orthodoxe a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le fondamental dans l\u2019\u00e9mergence de ces deux r\u00e9alit\u00e9s, \u00e0 la fois s\u00e9par\u00e9es et entrem\u00eal\u00e9es, que sont la Russie et l\u2019Ukraine. Le lieu du drame se trouve \u00e0 l\u2019intersection d\u2019un double carrefour, de l\u2019Europe et de l\u2019Asie. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019abord de l\u2019isthme entre la mer Baltique et la mer Noire, axe essentiel pour le commerce entre l\u2019Europe du Nord et la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e orientale. En perpendiculaire \u00e0 ce couloir, dans la partie m\u00e9ridionale de l\u2019actuelle Ukraine, se forme un corridor ouvert \u00e0 la circulation des peuples, par lequel sont pass\u00e9es plusieurs invasions successives. La fonction commerciale a permis la structuration de pouvoirs et l\u2019ouverture \u00e0 la civilisation et au monde ext\u00e9rieur. Les vagues d\u2019invasions et les convoitises des puissances environnantes ont par contre souvent d\u00e9fait les structures politiques et soumis les populations \u00e0 d\u2019\u00e9normes souffrances. C\u2019est cette dialectique entre construction et destruction qui explique l\u2019\u00e9mergence d\u2019une identit\u00e9 ukrainienne.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La carte politique de l\u2019espace de l\u2019actuelle Ukraine a chang\u00e9 de forme \u00e0 plusieurs reprises le long des si\u00e8cles, depuis&nbsp;<em>la Rus\u2019<\/em>&nbsp;ki\u00e9vienne au 9<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Catherine II au 18<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle, quand la majeure partie de l\u2019Ukraine s\u2019est trouv\u00e9e int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dans l\u2019Empire russe. Au fil des si\u00e8cles, les populations de l\u2019Ukraine ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soumises \u00e0 des dominations \u00e9trang\u00e8res successives : russe, polonaise, mongole, lithuanienne ou autrichienne. Le 20<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle a \u00e9t\u00e9 particuli\u00e8rement dur pour les Ukrainiens. Ils ont subi la grande famine de l\u2019\u00e9poque stalinienne, Holodomor, et se sont trouv\u00e9s au milieu de la confrontation arm\u00e9e de l\u2019Union sovi\u00e9tique et de l\u2019Allemagne nazi pendant la Deuxi\u00e8me Guerre mondiale.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette histoire explique la volont\u00e9 de se diff\u00e9rencier de l\u2019ensemble russe et de se relier \u00e0 l\u2019Europe et \u00e0 ses valeurs. Ces conditions permettent aussi de comprendre l\u2019importance de la religion, \u00e9l\u00e9ment \u00e0 la fois fondateur et lib\u00e9rateur de la conscience ukrainienne. \u00c0 partir de Constantinople, le Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique a introduit le christianisme et la civilisation byzantine d\u00e9j\u00e0 au 9<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle aux peuples de cette r\u00e9gion. Il a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le fondamental dans l\u2019organisation des communaut\u00e9s religieuses qui se sont form\u00e9es autour de la M\u00e9tropole de Kiev, et ensuite autour du Patriarcat de Moscou.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pourtant ses enseignements en ce qui concerne les r\u00e8gles d\u2019organisation et de fonctionnement eccl\u00e9siastique, h\u00e9rit\u00e9s de la longue histoire du Christianisme et qui refl\u00e8tent toute la sagesse administrative et philosophique du monde de la M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e orientale, n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 toujours respect\u00e9s par Moscou. Le pouvoir imp\u00e9rial a voulu soumettre l\u2019\u00e9glise \u00e0 sa volont\u00e9 dans son effort d\u2019instrumentaliser le sentiment religieux \u00e0 ses fins politiques et militaires. Ainsi, \u00e0 partir de la prise de Constantinople par les Ottomans en 1453, Moscou aspire \u00e0 remplacer le Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique en proclamant que Moscou repr\u00e9sente \u201cla troisi\u00e8me Rome\u201d. Cette politique de longue dur\u00e9e de Moscou constitue un facteur fondamental de division du monde orthodoxe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 partir du 19<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle, l\u2019instrumentalisation de la religion par Moscou s\u2019est combin\u00e9 avec les id\u00e9es novatrices du nationalisme allemand. Inspir\u00e9e du Pangermanisme, la nouvelle id\u00e9ologie du Panslavisme, organe de la politique \u00e9trang\u00e8re russe, s\u2019est dot\u00e9e d\u2019une composante religieuse. Il s\u2019agit de l\u2019id\u00e9e que les \u00e9glises doivent s\u2019organiser selon le principe de l\u2019ethnicit\u00e9, dont le marqueur central serait la langue. C\u2019est cette approche que le Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique de Constantinople a d\u00e9nonc\u00e9e en 1872 comme une h\u00e9r\u00e9sie (l\u2019h\u00e9r\u00e9sie de l\u2019ethnophyl\u00e9tisme, forme de racisme eccl\u00e9siale). Elle est en contradiction flagrante avec l\u2019universalisme du message \u00e9vang\u00e9lique, ainsi que du principe de gouvernance territoriale qui d\u00e9finit l\u2019organisation de notre \u00e9glise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette h\u00e9r\u00e9sie \u00e9tait pourtant utile aux objectifs de Moscou puisqu\u2019elle \u00e9loignait les croyants slavophones de l\u2019influence du Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique. Le but de cette strat\u00e9gie \u00e9tait de cr\u00e9er, au sein de l\u2019Empire ottoman, et, plus tard sous la forme d\u2019un \u00c9tat ind\u00e9pendant, une force politique \u00e0 part, au service de la pouss\u00e9e russe vers les mers chaudes. Elle est responsable des haines entre les chr\u00e9tiens des Balkans qui ont men\u00e9 aux guerres et aux atrocit\u00e9s balkaniques du d\u00e9but du 20<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;si\u00e8cle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au cours de l\u2019Union sovi\u00e9tique, la religion a \u00e9t\u00e9 marginalis\u00e9e et opprim\u00e9e. L\u2019id\u00e9ologie communiste avait occup\u00e9 le terrain attribu\u00e9 au paravent \u00e0 une religion instrumentalis\u00e9e par l\u2019Empire tsariste. Apr\u00e8s sa chute, la foi a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 nouveau utilis\u00e9e \u00e0 des fins id\u00e9ologiques. L\u2019\u00c9glise orthodoxe russe s\u2019est rang\u00e9e derri\u00e8re le r\u00e9gime du Pr\u00e9sident Vladimir Poutine, notamment \u00e0 partir de l\u2019\u00e9lection de Sa B\u00e9atitude le Patriarche Kirill en 2009. Elle participe activement \u00e0 la promotion de l\u2019id\u00e9ologie de&nbsp;<em>Rousskii Mir<\/em>, du monde russe,selon laquelle la langue et la religion permettent de d\u00e9finir un ensemble coh\u00e9rent englobant la Russie, l\u2019Ukraine, la Bi\u00e9lorussie ainsi que les autres territoires de l\u2019ex-Union sovi\u00e9tique et de la diaspora. Moscou (\u00e0 la fois le pouvoir politique et le pouvoir religieux) constituerait le centre de ce monde, dont la mission serait de combattre les valeurs d\u00e9cadentes de l\u2019Occident. Cette id\u00e9ologie constitue un instrument de l\u00e9gitimation de l\u2019expansionnisme russe et l\u2019assise de sa strat\u00e9gie eurasiatique. Le lien avec le pass\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9thnophyl\u00e9tisme et le pr\u00e9sent du Monde russe est \u00e9vident. La foi devient ainsi la colonne vert\u00e9brale de l\u2019id\u00e9ologie du r\u00e9gime de Poutine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019autoc\u00e9phalie de l\u2019\u00c9glise Orthodoxe d\u2019Ukraine accord\u00e9e en 2019 par le Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique a aggrav\u00e9 les relations avec l\u2019\u00c9glise russe.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nous retrouvons l\u00e0 des tensions d\u00e9j\u00e0 exprim\u00e9es lorsque le Patriarcat de Moscou avait d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de ne pas participer au saint et grand Concile de l\u2019\u00c9glise orthodoxe r\u00e9uni en Cr\u00e8te en 2016.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019invasion de l\u2019Ukraine en 24 f\u00e9vrier a pouss\u00e9 la polarisation \u00e0 son comble. Les prises de position pour le moins ambig\u00fces de la part du Patriarche Kirill envers la guerre et le soutien apport\u00e9 \u00e0 la politique du Pr\u00e9sident Poutine ont provoqu\u00e9 de fortes critiques au sein du monde orthodoxe et par-del\u00e0. Les orthodoxes d\u2019Ukraine qui avaient choisi de rester sous la tutelle de l\u2019\u00c9glise russe ont aussi exprim\u00e9 leur d\u00e9sapprobation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ainsi, la division du monde orthodoxe s\u2019approfondit et s\u2019\u00e9tend. Certaines \u00c9glises s\u2019accordent avec le Patriarcat \u0153cum\u00e9nique d\u2019autres, dont les pays d\u00e9pendent trop de la Russie, soutiennent le Patriarcat de Moscou aveugl\u00e9ment&nbsp;; d\u2019autres encore pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent garder un silence complice. Pendant ce temps, l\u2019\u00c9glise russe utilise les moyens de l\u2019\u00c9tat pour asseoir son influence sur le territoire canonique d\u2019autres \u00c9glises, en d\u00e9pit des r\u00e8gles les plus \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires de l\u2019organisation eccl\u00e9siastique de l\u2019orthodoxie. Ses ing\u00e9rences en Afrique sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es comme des actions punitives \u00e0 l\u2019encontre du Patriarcat d\u2019Alexandrie pour la reconnaissance de l\u2019autoc\u00e9phalie de l\u2019\u00c9glise orthodoxe d\u2019Ukraine. Il est \u00e9vident que dans ces conditions, le r\u00f4le pacificateur de l\u2019\u00c9glise devient fort difficile.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Que signifie cette situation pour les d\u00e9bats au-del\u00e0 des cercles eccl\u00e9siastiques? Elle montre encore une fois le r\u00f4le croissant du facteur religieux dans les grands enjeux mondiaux. Les id\u00e9ologies s\u2019affaiblissent l\u2019une apr\u00e8s l\u2019autre. La fin du communisme a laiss\u00e9 un grand vide dans toute une partie du monde qui vivait sous sa domination et chez d\u2019autres populations qui y avaient investi leurs espoirs. La crise de la mondialisation et du lib\u00e9ralisme est en train de cr\u00e9er aussi de profondes frustrations et de dangereux ressentiments. Dans ce paysage d\u2019effondrement des id\u00e9ologies mat\u00e9rialistes, le spirituel revient en force. Pourtant ce retour peut constituer un danger, s\u2019il n\u2019est pas exprim\u00e9 selon des approches int\u00e9grant la sagesse des traditions religieuses tir\u00e9e de l\u2019h\u00e9ritage des grandes civilisations du pass\u00e9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les erreurs de discernement, les h\u00e9r\u00e9sies, ne sont pas des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes anodins qui n\u2019int\u00e9ressent que quelques eccl\u00e9siastiques et quelques \u00e9rudits. Elles ont au contraire des cons\u00e9quences tr\u00e8s graves pour la vie spirituelle et pour la vie mat\u00e9rielle. La source de probl\u00e8mes est l\u2019instrumentalisation de la religion par des acteurs qui n\u2019ont souvent aucune v\u00e9ritable foi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les orthodoxes russes constituent une grande richesse pour l\u2019orthodoxie et pour l\u2019ensemble du monde. L\u2019orthodoxie russe a offert un \u00e9norme apport intellectuel, spirituel et artistique. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 malheureusement victime des ing\u00e9rences du pouvoir politique russe. L\u2019oppression sovi\u00e9tique a fait des ravages, privant des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations enti\u00e8res des bienfaits de la foi et de la sagesse de l\u2019\u00c9glise. Le r\u00e9gime n\u00e9o-imp\u00e9rial, dans son besoin de se renforcer, a puis\u00e9 dans ce qui lui a paru comme un capital politique pr\u00e9cieux : le sentiment religieux renouvel\u00e9 du peuple russe. Il a malheureusement pu entrainer sur ce chemin une partie du clerg\u00e9 orthodoxe. Il a surtout repris et renforc\u00e9 les approches h\u00e9r\u00e9tiques du r\u00e9gime tsariste dans un contexte de faible connaissance des r\u00e8gles eccl\u00e9siastiques, due en partie au d\u00e9labrement spirituel de la p\u00e9riode sovi\u00e9tique.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les cons\u00e9quences en sont tr\u00e8s graves. Le fanatisme ethnoreligieux inculqu\u00e9 dans la jeunesse russe \u00e9loigne les perspectives de paix et de r\u00e9conciliation. Le monde orthodoxe est divis\u00e9 et cette fragmentation est projet\u00e9e dans des pays pauvres, dont les populations esp\u00e9raient trouver un soulagement dans la foi. Elle nuit surtout \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9glise russe puisque t\u00f4t ou tard les populations vont se rendre compte des d\u00e9rives d\u2019une \u00c9glise soumise \u00e0 des objectifs qui n\u2019ont rien \u00e0 faire avec sa mission originelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mesdames et Messieurs, chers amis,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les sp\u00e9cialistes des relations internationales ont parfois tendance \u00e0 ignorer ou \u00e0 marginaliser le r\u00f4le et la signification du facteur religieux, authentique ou manipul\u00e9. Nous sommes pourtant entr\u00e9s dans une p\u00e9riode pendant laquelle ce facteur devient de plus en plus important. Les th\u00e9ologiens et autres sp\u00e9cialistes des questions ayant \u00e0 faire avec le fonctionnement des \u00c9glises doivent sans doute s\u2019ouvrir aux autres perspectives et d\u00e9velopper le dialogue avec les autres disciplines scientifiques. Il est aussi important que les sp\u00e9cialistes des sciences sociales, des sciences politiques et des relations internationales d\u00e9passent une certaine h\u00e9sitation \u00e0 approfondir les questions religieuses. La compr\u00e9hension d\u2019un monde nouveau qui se constitue sous nos yeux ne peut pas faire abstraction du fait religieux.
