JANE GOODALL (1934–2025)
On learning of the passing of Dame Jane Goodall, His All-Holiness expressed his sincere sympathy for the loss of an admirable advocate of the environment and devoted messenger of peace throughout the world.
Dr. Goodall was the keynote speaker at the inaugural Halki Summit in 2012, the new ecological conference series of the Ecumenical Patriarchate that followed the Summer Seminars (1994–1998) and International Symposia (1995–2018).
From that time, she remained a close friend and ardent supporter of the environmental initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarch. Most recently, she attended and spoke at the ceremony held in New York City for the Templeton Prize, which was bestowed on His All-Holiness this year.
Her compassion and enthusiasm for all of creation, human and animal, was and will long continue to be the source of immense inspiration for all those who care about the sustainability and survival of our planet.
