Η εθνική παρέλαση της 25ης Μαρτίου στο Τορόντο εφέτος γιορτάσθηκε την Κυριακή, 7 Απριλίου. Αρχικά η παρέλαση είχε ορισθεί για την Κυριακή 24 Μαρτίου. Ήταν μια ημέρα ηλιόλουστη. Όλος ο Ελληνισμός ξεχύθηκε στη Danforth Avenue όπου έγινε η μεγαλειώδης παρέλαση. Καμία χρονιά δεν είχε τόσο κόσμο στην παρέλαση και τόσο ενθουσιασμό. Μπροστάρηδες ήσαν ο πρωθυπουργός του Οντάριο D. Ford, η δήμαρχος Τορόντο O. Chow, ο Επίσκοπος Αθηναγόρας (εκπροσωπώντας τον Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριο ο οποίος είχε εκ των προτέρων ορίσει για αυτό το Σαββατοκύριακο πνευματικές συνάξεις στις Κοινότητες νοτιοδυτικού Οντάριο), η πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο Μ. Σκουτάκη και πολλοί άλλοι. Την όλη οργάνωση είχε η Ελληνική Κοινότητα Τορόντο. Θερμά συγχαρητήρια.
Την Παρασκευή, 5 Απριλίου ο Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριος με τον π. Α. Bandura τέλεσαν τους Γ΄ Χαιρετισμούς στον Ι.Ν. Πέτρου και Παύλου Kitchener. Με πολλή χαρά και σε μεγάλους αριθμούς προσήλθαν οι πιστοί. Ήταν μία Ι. Ακολουθία αξέχαστη. Η αγάπη την οποία έδειξαν στον Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριο ήταν συγκινητική.
Τον επομένη ημέρα Σάββατο, 6 Απριλίου έγινε η δεύτερη Πνευματική Σύναξη των Φιλοπτώχων Αδελφοτήτων στο London Οντάριο (έλαβαν μέρος οι Κοινότητες, Kitchener, London, Sarnia, Chatham και Windsor). Όπως προβλέπει το πρόγραμμα έγινε Θ. Λειτουργία προεξάρχοντος του Αρχιεπ. Σωτηρίου και συμμετεχόντων των ιερέων, Η. Δρόσου, Κ. Χατζή, Α. Bandura, Γ. Παπάζογλου και Χ. Αχιλλέως. Προσευχόμενοι στο Ιερό ήσαν ο π. Δ. Τσελώνης και ο π. Ε. Αραβαντινός. Στη Θ. Κοινωνία συμμετείχαν σχεδόν όλες οι κυρίες και δεσποινίδες των Φιλοπτώχων Αδελφοτήτων. Ομιλητές ήσαν ο Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριος με θέμα «Πίστις εστίν ελπιζομένων υπόστασις» Εβρ. 1,11 και ο π. Κ. Χατζής με θέμα «Η είσοδός μας στη Μ. Τεσαρακοστή». Ασυνήθιστα μεγάλος για την περιοχή αυτή ήταν ο αριθμός των κυριών και δεσποινίδων των Φιλοπτώχων Αδελφοτήτων οι οποίες συμμετείχαν. Παρετέθη νηστίσιμο γεύμα για όλους. Σημειώνεται εδώ, ότι έλαβαν μέρος η πρόεδρος κα Ζ. Βερούτη και το κλιμάκιο του Αρχιεπ. Συμβουλίου Φιλοπτώχου Αδελφότητας, οι πρόεδροι των Φιλοπτώχων Αδελφοτήτων των Κοινοτήτων Kitchener κα Κ. Γκοβάνη, London κα Α. Alben, Sarnia κα Β. Ριγκάκου, Chatham κα Χρ. Πρωτόπαππα, Windsor κα O. Καραθανάση. Ήταν πραγματικά ένα γεμάτο πρόγραμμα με συμμετοχή στην πνευματική συζήτηση. Αληθινά ήταν μια πολύ όμορφη ημέρα.
Το Σάββατο, 6 Απριλίου ο Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριος, η πρόεδρος κα Ζ. Βερούτη και οι κυρίες από το Αρχιεπ. Συμβούλιο Φιλοπτώχου κα Β. Καραγιάννη, κα Γ. Ορφανάκου-Χαραμή και κα Κ. Peters έφθασαν στο Windsor.
Ιδιαίτερη συζήτηση είχε ο Αρχιεπ. με τον πρόεδρο κ. Θ. Παπαντώνη. Το Σάββατο το βράδυ παρετέθη δείπνο για τον Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριο και τις κυρίες της Φιλοπτώχου του Αρχιεπισκοπικού Συμβουλίου, αλλά και του Διοικ. Συμβουλίου της Κοινότητας Windsor και του Διοικ. Συμβουλίου της Φιλοπτώχου Αδελφότητας Windsor. Συνεζητήθησαν με πολλή αγάπη και διεξοδικά όλα τα θέματα.
Την επόμενη ημέρα Κυριακή της Σταυροπροσκυνήσεως, 7 Απριλίου, ο Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριος τέλεσε τη Θ. Λειτουργία στον Ι.Ν. Τιμίου Σταυρού Windsor με τους ιερείς π. Ε. Αραβαντινό και π. I. Αyoub. Οι ιεροψάλτες έψαλλαν άριστα. Τα παιδιά του Ιερού υπηρέτησαν με πολλή ευλάβεια. Οι ευσεβείς χριστιανοί κατέκλυσαν τον Ι. Ναό και το μεγαλύτερο μέρος εκοινώνησε των Αχράντων Μυστηρίων. Με κατάνυξη έγινε η περιφορά του Τιμίου Σταυρού. Μετά την Θ. Λειτουργία παρετέθη νηστίσιμο γεύμα για όλους. Ξεχείλισε η αγάπη των πιστών προς τον Αρχιεπ. Σωτήριο.

The Greek parade in Toronto was magnificent and the weekend was spiritual in southwestern Ontario
The Greek parade of March 25th in Toronto this year was celebrated on Sunday, April 7th. Initially, the parade was scheduled for Sunday, March 24th. It was a sunny day, and the entire Greek community poured onto Danforth Avenue where the magnificent parade took place. Never before had there been such a crowd and enthusiasm at the parade. Leading dignitaries included Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, Bishop Athenagoras (representing Archbishop Sotirios, who had previously scheduled spiritual gatherings in the communities of southwestern Ontario for this weekend), President of the Greek Community of Toronto Betty Skoutakis, and many others. The whole organization was carried out by the Greek Community of Toronto. Congratulations!
On Friday, April 5, Archbishop Sotirios and Fr. A. Bandura celebrated the Third Stasis of the Salutations at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Kitchener. The faithful attended with great joy and in large numbers. It was an unforgettable service, and the love shown to Archbishop Sotirios was moving.
The following day, Saturday, April 6, the second Spiritual Retreat of the Philoptochos Sisterhoods took place in London, Ontario, (the communities of Kitchener, London, Sarnia, Chatham, and Windsor participated). As per the program, a Divine Liturgy was presided by Archbishop Sotirios, with the participation of priests E. Drosos, K. Hatzis, A. Bandura, G. Papazoglou, and Ch. Achilleos. Fathers D. Tselonis and E. Aravantinos were also praying in the Altar of the Church. Almost all the ladies of the Philoptochos Sisterhoods received Holy Communion. The speakers were Archbishop Sotirios on the topic “Faith is the substance of things hoped for” from Hebrews 11:1 and Fr. K. Chatzis on the topic “Our entry into Great Lent.” Unusual for this area was the large number of ladies from the Philoptochos Sisterhoods who participated. A fasting meal was provided for everyone. It is noted here that President Mrs. Z. Veroutis and the delegation of the Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council, the presidents of the Philoptochos Sisterhoods of the communities Kitchener Mrs. K. Govani, London Mrs. A. Alben, Sarnia Mrs. V. Rigakos, Chatham Mrs. Ch. Protopappas, Windsor Mrs. O. Karathanasi, all took part. It was truly a packed program with participation in spiritual discussion. It was indeed a very meaningful day.
On Saturday, April 6, Archbishop Sotirios, President Mrs. Z. Veroutis, and the ladies from the Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council, Mrs. V. Karagianni, Mrs. G. Orfanakou-Harami, and Mrs. K. Peters arrived in Windsor. Archbishop had a private meeting with the president, Mr. Th. Papantonis.
On Saturday night, a dinner was held for Archbishop Sotirios and the ladies of the Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council, as well as the Council of the Board of Directors of the Windsor Community and the Council of the Philoptochos Sisterhood of Windsor. All topics were discussed with much love and thoroughness.
The next day, Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, April 7, Archbishop Sotirios officiated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Cross in Windsor with priests Fr. E. Aravantinos and Fr. J. Ayoub. The cantors sang excellently, and the altar boys served with great reverence. The devout Christians flooded the church, and most partook of the Holy Gifts. The procession of the Holy Cross was conducted with reverence. After the Divine Liturgy, a fasting meal was provided for everyone. The love of the faithful towards Archbishop Sotirios overflowed.
