Το πρωΐ της Κυριακής, 2 Φεβρουαρίου 2025, εορτή της Υπαπαντής του Κυρίου, ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Σουηδίας και πάσης Σκανδιναυΐας κ. Κλεόπας χοροστάτησε στον Καθεδρικό Ναό Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης, όπου συλλειτούργησαν, ο Εφημέριος του Ναού, Πανοσιολ. Αρχιμανδρίτης κ. Βαρθολομαίος Ιατρίδης, και ο Αιδεσιμολ. Οικονόμος κ. Γεώργιος Αρβανιτίδης, Εφημέριος της Ενορίας των Αγίων Δημητρίου και Νέστορος, της πόλεως Örebro Σουηδίας.
Κατά την διάρκεια της Θείας Λειτουργίας και πριν την μετάδοση της Θείας Κοινωνίας στους πιστούς, ο Ποιμενάρχης, όπως συμβαίνει επί των ημερών της αρχιερατείας του, προσκάλεσε τα παιδιά να ανέλθουν στην σολέα, όπου τους εξήγησε επ’ ολίγον το νόημα της σημερινής εορτής, και στην συνέχεια τους επέστησε την προσοχή, να παρακολουθήσουν το Ιερό Μυστήριο του Χρίσματος, που είναι στην ουσία η «Υπαπαντή»-Υποδοχή ενός νέου μέλους στο Σώμα του Χριστού.
Ο προσελθών σήμερα στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, έλκει την καταγωγή του από την Ουγκάντα, είναι καρπός των συναντήσεων της νεολαίας του Καθεδρικού Ναού Αγίου Γεωργίου Στοκχόλμης, όπου οι νέοι και οι ενδιαφερόμενοι για την Ορθόδοξη πίστη κατηχούνται και προετοιμάζονται, για να ενταχθούν κατά περίπτωση, είτε δια του Βαπτίσματος, είτε δια του Χρίσματος.
Ο συγκεκριμένος νέος έλαβε το όνομα Μάρκος, ανέγνωσε το σύμβολο της πίστεως και τα λοιπά προβλεπόμενα στο συγκεκριμένο Ιερό Μυστήριο και, αφού εχρίσθη δια του Αγίου Μύρου, εδέχθη ως δώρο από μεν την ενορία έναν επιστήθιο Σταυρό, από δε τον ανάδοχό του, Δρ. Ιωάννη Ρηγόπουλο, μία περίτεχνη εικόνα του προστάτη του Ευαγγελιστού Μάρκου.
Στην ομιλία του προς το Εκκλησίασμα, ο Σεβασμιώτατος ευχαρίστησε αρχικώς τον π. Βαρθολομαίο, ο οποίος τον εσυνόδευσε κατά την χθεσινή ποιμαντική επίσκεψή του στην Ενορία του Örebro, συνεχάρη δε στην συνέχεια τον π. Γεώργιο για την αφοσιωμένη ιερατική διακονία του στην ενορία του Örebro και την παράθεση πλούσιαςς φιλοξενίας εκείσε, ενώ επεξήγησε την σημασία των λόγων της «απολύσεως» της σημερινής εορτής: «Ὁ ἐν ἀγκάλαις τοῦ Δικαίου Συμεών βασταχθῆναι καταδεξάμενος διά τήν ἡμῶν σωτηρίαν».
Δοξάζοντας το όνομα του Τριαδικού Θεού, που επευλογεί το επιτελούμενο ιεραποστολικό έργο στην Επαρχία του Οικουμενικού Θρόνου στην εσχατιά της Ευρώπης, ευχόμαστε και άλλοι πολλοί αδελφοί μας, να δεχθούν τον φωτισμό του Ευαγγελίου της σωτηρίας και να ενταχθούν στους κόλπους της Ορθοδόξου Εκκλησίας, με ιεραποστολικό ζήλο και φρόνημα!
“Ypapanti” of a New Member at the Stockholm Cathedral
On the morning of Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, the Feast of the Ypapanti/ Christ’s Presentation into the Temple, His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia presided over the Divine Liturgy in Chorostasia, at the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm.
Cocelebtants were the parish priest, Very Reverend Archimandrite Bartholomew Iatridis, and the Reverend Economos George Arvanitidis, Parish Priest of the Saints Demetrios and Nestor Parish in Örebro, Sweden.
During the Divine Liturgy, before the distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful, as has become a tradition during his episcopacy tenure, the Metropolitan invited the children to come up to the solea, in front of Holy Altar, where he briefly explained the meaning of the feast day. He then drew their attention to the Holy Sacrament of Chrismation, which is essentially the “Ypapanti”—the reception of a new member into the Body of Christ.
The individual being received into the Orthodox Church today hails from Uganda. He is the fruit of the meetings of the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm Youth Ministry, where the youth and those interested in the Orthodox faith are catechized and prepared to be integrated into the Church, either through Baptism or Chrismation, as applicable.
This young man was given the name Mark. He recited the Nicene Creed and the other required prayers as part of the Holy Sacrament, and after being anointed with Holy Myrrh, he received a pectoral cross as a gift from the parish and a beautiful icon of his patron saint Evangelist Mark from his sponsor Dr. Ioannis Rigopoulos.
In his address to the congregation, His Eminence first thanked Fr. Bartholomew for accompaning him during his pastoral visit to the Örebro Parish the day before. He then congratulated Fr. George for his dedicated priestly ministry in the Örebro Parish and for the abrahamic hospitality extended there. His Eminence also explained the significance of the words in the dismissal of the day’s feast: “He who deigned to be held in the arms of the Righteous Simeon for our salvation.”
Praising the name of the Trinitarian God, who blesses the ongoing missionary ministry of the Eparchy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Northern Lands, we pray that many more of our brothers and sisters will receive the enlightenment of the Gospel and will be welcomed into the embrace of the Orthodox Church, with missionary zeal and dedication!
